CUT THE WRAP

CUT THE WRAP

We are at a critical turning point.

On September 18, Federal, State, and Territory Environment Ministers will gather for the next Environment Ministers’ Meeting (EMM).

This comes right on the heels of Environment Minister Murray Watt’s disturbing announcement, that Commonwealth packaging reform won’t be introduced this term. If ministers don't act now, Australia’s domestic recycling industry faces collapse and household costs will continue to skyrocket. Voluntary promises simply do not work.

With only 16% of Australia’s single-use plastic packaging currently recovered, the rest is polluting our waterways or landfilled, while exposing us to a toxic load present in most plastic packaging.

This pivotal moment coincides with the release of the documentary 'The Plastic Country' by Kal Glanznig, which puts a stark spotlight on the heavy chemical load impacting our health and the devastating toll plastics will take on future generations. Now, it’s personal.

And it's time to fire up.

There is unprecedented consensus across industry, environment groups and the public for genuine reform - giving us a powerful window to ramp up the pressure.

Take Action Before September 18:

  • Email your MP and Environment Minister: send them a personalised email using this template. Demand action today: let them know time is up. We need our Ministers to champion a legally binding Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme that forces producers to take responsibility for their packaging and transition to circular systems.

  • Call your State and the Federal Environment Ministers: join our mass phone action and demand Ministers progress a legally binding Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.

  • Rally your network: Share this message with friends, family, and local groups to maximise our collective voice.

The more pressure we apply to Commonwealth and State/Territory governments right now, the stronger our impact will be. Let’s make sure every minister hears us loud and clear before they meet.
